Dr. Subrata Dutta
With more than 20 years of experience in food security, agri-business, commodity analysis and food distribution, Dr Subrata Dutta has successfully managed implementation of largest food distribution program for 80 million populations in 11 states, distribution of hot-cooked meals for 1.2 million children in 5 states and breakfast fortified-milk for few million children in 7 states of India. He was the India Representative of Food Fortification Initiative, a global initiative of UN & international development agencies established under CDC, USA; Country Coordinator of Nutrition International, Canada; Managing Director of ESF-India and has worked in senior positions with Tata-Trusts, Unicef Project and other international development agencies.
He was actively involved with Government of India for setting up national food fortification policy and standards and with State Governments he managed several public-private partnership programs involving more than 500 food processing industries. Under multilateral public-private partnership programs, he and his team closely monitored the quality production of processing industries and distribution of fortified foods through few lakhs of network ration-shops in India. As part of global management team, he continued his advocacy support to various countries in Asia for establishing similar models of fortified food distribution. He is the author of several books, co-author of few international research papers including “Fortification Impact on Asian Wheat Products” and has contributed hundreds of articles and features in leading national dailies and weeklies. He had substantially contributed to the periodic report: The right to Adequate Food in India submitted to the 40th session of UN-ECOSOC.
